we are shattering the darkness and bringing the message of hope to women in Prison! Often, people come out of prison worse than when they went in. Many commit more crimes, return to prison, and get stuck in the cycle or recidivism, “the revolving door” of crime, prison, and release. But with your help Hope and a Future is working to change that. We believe the answer is in the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the demonstration of His power! We are currently working with over 25 women in prison sharing the Good news-through prison visits, mentoring, sending Bibles, Bible Studies, journals and writing cards of encouragement. Upon these women’s release, we are ready to walk with them back into a successful life in our community. Read Danielle’s powerful story from behind Bars! When I was 4 years old, I would play hide-n-seek, tag and dolls with my sisters; those are the most beautiful childhood memories I have. Then came the divorce of my mom and dad. The abuse began when I was 4 years old -- sexual, mental and emotional -- and it continued through my teenage years. The pain was so bad that I turned to alcohol and drugs. At age 14 I had my first child. A precious, beautiful baby girl. My drug use continued and I had more children. Eventually losing custody of them all. I was facing 5 years in prison. It was there, in the Marion County Jail, I was introduced to Jesus and was baptized. Praise God! I found out that I was pregnant again. Shortly after, I was sentenced to 38 months in prison. When it was near time to deliver my son, they moved me to a special unit. When my water broke, I was handcuffed and transported to the hospital under guard supervision to have my baby. They removed the chains while I labored and 4 hours later he was born. This was one of the most difficult times of my life; I had to leave my baby with a family member and returned to prison. I cried for days, again I turned to my Savior Jesus Christ. I am using this time in prison to learn the Word of God. Being here has changed my life! I am thankful for Hope and a Future’s support, mentor visits, cards, letters, and the bible & journal they sent me... Please pray for Danielle. She has a long road ahead but with God's help she will come out of prison a transformed woman of God!!
